B.S. in Chemical Engineering
WORK EXPERIENCE
My experience in engineering design has only just begun, but it has already taught me countless lessons over the past years. As I continue to hone my skills and grow as a professional, I look forward to contributing to various types of projects, working with and learning from industry professionals, and becoming worthy of the title ‘Chemical Engineer.’
March 2023 - Present
PROCESS ENGINEERING SPECIALIST, S&B ENGINEERS AND CONSTRUCTORS, LTD.
My internship at S&B was full of small- to medium-sized projects with plenty of oversight. Now, I am working on much larger projects as a key contributor. My first assignment was modeling a cooling water network on my own which circulates 30,500 gallons per minute in a hydraulic piping system modeling & performance analytics software called PIPE-FLO. This was by far the most responsibility and largest scope project I have had so far. Experiences gained:
Large-scale hydraulic modeling and pump performance analysis in PIPE-FLO
Continuing to build and develop the experiences gained during my internship below
June 2021 - February 2023
PROCESS ENGINEERING INTERN, S&B ENGINEERS AND CONSTRUCTORS, LTD.
A highlight of my time interning at S&B so far was designing a new hydrogen sulfide gas scrubber for a major oil & gas company’s existing process. This project entailed scribe duties for a 16-hour coarse HAZOP with senior engineers, sole responsibility for PFDs and P&IDs fabrication, preliminary sizing of various pieces of equipment, and more. S&B has shown me how to be a better team member and a better engineer. Experiences gained:
Fabricated process flow diagrams & piping and instrumentation diagrams to aid process design.
Collaborated with various disciplines to specify equipment datasheets and instrument datasheets.
Consulted with various equipment vendors to select the best solution for the client’s process.
Conducted hydraulic analysis on piping networks to assign appropriate line sizes.
Sized various pieces of equipment according to process requirements.
Simulated processes using Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS.
Participated in a 16-hour coarse HAZOP with a client.
Trained new interns during their co-op assignment.
August 2018 - December 2018
ENVIROMENTAL LAB ASSISTANT, COLLEGE OF THE COAST & ENVIRONMENT, LSU
Experiences gained:
Processed sediment samples for chemical composition analysis and organic burn off analysis.
Ensured glassware was washed to a high quality in acid bath to prevent contamination between samples.
Trained new coworkers on proper techniques to increase overall team efficiency, quality, and throughput.
INVOLVEMENT
SIMULATION USERS GROUP
Active Member
During my time with S&B, they had an interest in training their younger, less experienced engineers on using process simulation software. Specifically, they wanted to create replacements for their existing simulation power-users who are approaching retirement age. S&B created Simulation Users Group (SUG); an optional monthly presentation taught by experienced engineers. There are opportunities for anyone to present a 10-minute mini-topic before the rest of the meeting contents. I presented two of these mini-topics in my time at S&B.
AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS
Active Member
I’ve been an active member in the local LSU chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) since my freshman year. During my time with AIChE, I have attended meetings regarding a variety of topics. Many of which featuring presentations from various industry professionals. My involvement in this organization has allowed me to expand my professional network as well as develop my knowledge of the industry.
EDUCATION
B.S. IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING, LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY
I graduated from Louisiana State University in December 2022. I received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering as well as a distinguished communicator medal. I thoroughly enjoyed being an LSU tiger.
